Performing Arts

Music is a valued and essential component of the Curriculum at Tyabb Primary School. There are two areas to the program available to our students. At present there is a specialist music teacher for classroom lessons and 6 instrumental teachers for private and shared instrumental lessons. The specialist music teacher takes every class for a 60 minute lesson plus Choir and Band. Students in Prep – Grade 4 have music for 6 months and grades 5 and 6 for one term. Later in the year grades 5 and 6 have electives in which they can choose Music. Students in grades 3 – 6 are invited to join Choir which takes place one lunchtime a week for the whole year. These students may take part in Choral Festivals, the School Concert, Assembly, Carols and Elderly visits. Children in grades 5-6 can also join Band which takes place once a week during class and lunchtime. The Band performs the Anthem at Assembly weekly and prepares other items to perform. The band performs on external visits such as the elderly Christmas excursion.

Our long standing Instrumental Program provides an opportunity for interested students to learn an instrument on a more personal and structured level. Instruments on offer are Piano, Guitar, Strings, Flute, Clarinet, and Vocal Training. Strings can begin in Prep, Piano in Grade 2 and all other instruments begin in Grade 3. An instrumental room is available for these lessons and there is a variety of instruments for hire. There is an Instrumental Concert during the year to showcase their work. Our instrumental teachers are highly skilled and dedicated to their craft.

Every second year there is a whole school concert where all students and teachers take part. In 2015 this will take place at The Langwarrin Performing Arts centre.
